Hard to believe. I've been sorting through my vinyl collection and it turns out that I've got close to 1000 covers of Beatles songs.
Depending on the situation, party or mood, I'd say that about a third of them are actually pretty decent, heart felt efforts - the rest are either just plain bad, half-ass or simply make me wonder why they even bothered.
As a result, (and partially because I've been slammed this week) this weeks episode of the HMK Mystery Stream contains a few of my favorite Beatle covers along with a couple of alternitve takes by the real Fab 4, just to keep things interesting.
John opens this weeks episode with his totally nonchalant take on the band - "We were just four guys that made it really big, that's all..."

Not bad for just four guys...

Howdy y'all!
Well, it's officially that party time of year down here in beautiful San Antonio, Texas.
That's right, it's FIESTA!
And as a result, this weeks Mystery Stream is really no mystery at all. It's all about getting together with friends and family, having fun, enjoying the weather, the food and of course, the music.
So, even if you're worlds away, why not call a few close friends, grab yourself a glass of your favorite and hang out on the patio as you enjoy the 2007 Fiesta Vibes!

Welcome to Week 13 of the HMK Mystery Stream.
I've been a little under the weather for a few days and with the help of some over the counter meds (or quite possibly as a result) this weeks HMK Mystery Stream takes the form of a trippy audio Nyquil high. You don't need to have a bad cold to enjoy the following selections, but it might help, but please don't wait for a cold as the reason. There's lots of good reasons to close your eyes and check out the goodies below, and if you absolutely need a reason, other than the fact that you might be a courious audio freak such as myself, here are 13 of them, just for you:
Reason Number 1 is something we could all use, and give, a little bit more of...
Reason Number 2 is also the current status of my San Antonio Spurs in the Southwestern Division of the Western Conference.
Reason Number 3 takes us back to some fine GI Jive toe tappin'.
Reason Number 4 is all about the planet, man.
Reason Number 5 reminds us that ole blue eyes could do more than sing.
Reason Number 6 for some reason gives me a craving for a big shot of esspresso and a cup of some good java.
The more I listen to it, Reason Number 7 is probably the most appealing of this bunch.
Don't be a Jughead, relax and enjoy Reason Number 8, it's almost as good as an old TV show on a rainy Sunday.
Both horrible and sweet, you'll either love or hate Reason Number 9.
I think Marvin would find Reason Number 10 quite killer.
Reason Number 11 is a little weird, not that there's anything wrong with that...
It there was ever a time and a place for a good hearty Yee Haw!, then Reason Number 12 will take you there.
And finally, just because Brette, our newly turned 13 year old will think this is toally weird, Reason Number 13 is the big spoonfull of audio Nyquil I promised you at the top...
Next week: More of the same, only, uh, different... it's a Mystery, remember!

That's right, dig my signed Destroyer album!
I got this signed literally just moments before Ace went on stage for his show at Axis on Lansdowne Street back in 1989. The silver metallic pen I gave Ace to sign with totally leaked and got all over his hands and black jeans which kind of pissed him off, but actually looked pretty cool when he was on stage. He opened with Rip It Out!
Love'em or hate'em, I'll always be a Kiss fan - everything up until Love Gun and Ace Frehley's solo album that is anyway.
As far as I'm concerned, without Ace, there would be and is no Kiss. Period.
If you're a Kiss or Ace fan you'll dig: THIS.
And here's a cool little something for the Space Man in all of us - dig this Console Audio of the Apollo 11 Landing!

Meet Sir Shane Whitefield. The ultimate SXSW host and King of Cool Free Stuff Concierge.
And this is, I think, my 6th SXSW with fellow music freak Eric Greene.
Thanks again for the crashpad Shane!

Here's a few random shots from SXSW!
After a few ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbons right after breakfast The rocking Deadstring Brothers live at the Yard Dog for the annual Bloodshot Records SXSW bash totally reminded me of The Band meets The Stones circa Exile On Mainstreet.
Although this is a tame studio version the live take was killer. Dig Deadstring Brothers: Get Up Jake!
