Crocodiles at SXSW 2012

Crocodiles SXSW 2012

Crocodiles SXSW 2012

Ok, now back to the west coast. Man, these guys rock. Check out the awesome new single they closed out the set with at Urban Outfitters backyard stage, from the totally cool San Diego fuzz-rock band Crocodiles, dig Sunday (Psychic Conversation #9) from the soon to be released Endless Flowers album, sounding like it's fresh from 1989!

Habibi at Beauty Bar SXSW 2012

Habibi at Beauty Bar

Habibi at Beauty Bar

This time from the east coast, one of the cooler, funner bands I caught during SXSW last week, Habibi from Brooklyn, a super sweet, all girl, lo-fi surf pop band that kinda remind me of Brian Wilson's The Honeys from back in the mid 60's.

SXSW: Austin Pawn Shop Unleashes Mother Lode of Music Gear

From the outside, Cash America Pawn in Austin, Texas looks like any other pawn shop — a place where the down-and-out and desperate wheel up to sell mom’s jewelry.

But behind the counter and through the doors leading to the back room, there hides a treasure trove of musical delights.

Andre Williams Rules!

Sweeet! I got the official SXSW thumbs up yesterday afternoon from Mr. Andre Williams at the 14th Annual Bloodshot Records showcase at Yard Dog. Sir Andre's a regular and a favorite on my HMK Mystery Streams, always adding the perfect dose of funky soul to the mix.

If you're not familiar with the genius of "Mr. Rhythm" check out this 1966 single Sweet Little Pussycat and dig what you've been missing. Meow!

Thanks again to all the cool folks at Yard Dog, Bloodshot Records and Shiner for the cool schwag, burgers and beer, my good buddy Shane Whitefield for the awesome crash pad - and especially my young one, attending her first SXSW just a few short days before her 14th birthday, Brette Moss Grieder, for taking this cool shot of me and Andre!

See y'all next year!

Dude. Where's the Party Shane?

Meet Sir Shane Whitefield. The ultimate SXSW host and King of Cool Free Stuff Concierge.

And this is, I think, my 6th SXSW with fellow music freak Eric Greene.

Thanks again for the crashpad Shane!

SXSW 2007 Shots

Here's a few random shots from SXSW!

After a few ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbons right after breakfast The rocking Deadstring Brothers live at the Yard Dog for the annual Bloodshot Records SXSW bash totally reminded me of The Band meets The Stones circa Exile On Mainstreet.

Although this is a tame studio version the live take was killer. Dig Deadstring Brothers: Get Up Jake!
