Best Coast

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I am so totally digging this entire album from Best Coast, a sweetly sonic indie, lo-fi chick surf pop band out of Los Angeles, California.

Check out the title track from 2010's Crazy For You. And don't blame me if you get hooked, they're the perfect background for a lazy Sunday morning, afternoon cocktail or a nice drive in the Hill Country. Awesome and in heavy rotation down here in the Tiki Room...

And dig this, just found out they'll be here in SA on March 12 at the Korova while I'm up at Southby in Austin... Shit, they've gotta be playing up there as well right before or after...

Stay tuned and M

Kon-Tiki

The Tiki Abides! Dig The Shadows: Kon-Tiki, the number one song on the UK charts on October 2, 1961, the day I was born, perfect!

And hey, while I'm at it - here's another awesome version by Mr. Bud Ashton: Kon-Tiki

Dom Rules!

From un-sexy Worcester, Massachusetts - I'm totally loving Dom!

Dig the track Damn from their super fresh, August 2011 Family of Love EP. Produced by Nicolas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Björk), the EP made the Top 10 College Radio chart September 2011. The band played Lollapalooza 2011, receiving critical acclaim and was asked by Perry Farrell, the festival founder to open for Jane's Addiction.

Not bad for a brand new band who's twenty-two-year-old leader Dom that grew up in foster care bouncing around with no real family to speak of. The fact that he found and chose a musical direction to battle his demons makes me love the soul, energy and sound of this band all the more.

File Under: fun, fuzzy, low-fi, distortion, sweet, broken Casio keyboard lines, DIY aesthetic, art school, upbeat, sunny rhythms, pop music, photography, soundtrack.

Look for both "Damn" and another mystery Dom track on next week's Irregular Frequency Mystery Stream podcast.

And dig this: Dom Mystery Stream Drop. Thanks Dom and John!

Thanks to art school bro Mad Dog AKA John Gomes, this great new band was a big part of the soundtrack to my awesome visit to Boston and Lenox for another art school bud, Mr. X AKA Mike MacKenzie and his marriage to his lovely new bride Kelly and proud son John. Congrats again y'all!
